How Colors Affect a Person’s Mood and Attitude

Yellow can often increase energy and boost metabolism

A person’s home is their refuge from the world, where they should be most comfortable. However, many would be surprised to learn that its colors may affect their overall mood, attitude, and personality. While things like the work day, stress levels, and physical health will also play into how a person feels, the wall colors may also have an impact.

It’s important to note that no two people are the same. Some personalities will be affected by color differently, and age or gender can also factor into it. But science has found some general rules regarding which colors will do what to a person’s mood.

Here’s a look at some of them.

  • Yellow: Yellow can often increase energy and boost metabolism. It also helps to brighten up a room and provide more light. But it can make some people a bit on edge, too. It’s worth avoiding it in a bedroom, study, or office. But for a kitchen, it’s one of the best choices out there.

  • Red: Red can also boost energy and help stimulate the mind. It’s great for family rooms or dens and is an excellent choice for dining rooms. It is especially true for dining rooms, as red has been shown to stimulate appetite, as well.

  • Blue: Blue is the most calming color someone can choose. It relaxes and helps to stimulate peace and helps boost overall focus. It’s great for bedrooms in particular. But stick with light blue, as dark blue has been shown to increase sadness and depression.

  • Green: It may surprise some, but green is one of the best colors for any room in the house. It’s the most restful for the eyes and helps increase relaxation and well-being.

  • Orange: Orange is another choice that boosts excitement, energy, and enthusiasm. It’s great for family rooms, game rooms, or exercise rooms. Avoid using it in home offices since it reduces concentration.

No matter which room in the home needs painting, there’s a color perfect for it. Learn about the different colors and how they’ll influence a person’s mood, then match them to the room needing painting. A little bit of research and color planning will go a long way toward helping you feel at home.
