Reasons to Paint a Home Exterior

Painting your home’s exterior offers many benefits. Our last blog featured a YouTube video from a real estate agent who suggested painting as a way to give a home curb appeal. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the other benefits exterior painting offers.

Our weather is working to a homeowner’s advantage, as well. We’re still enjoying the drier months in the Tampa area, making this some great weather to help expedite exterior house painting. The faster we can get in and get the painting completed, the less hassle it is for the entire family. But, back to the benefits of painting your home’s exterior.

Clean beauty

A freshly painted home looks clean, as though it were brand-new. Pressure washing will do wonders for a home, but painting takes it further. The process of painting involves caulking to seal any cracks, for example. A painter also gets an up-close inspection of all exterior surfaces, meaning that any overlooked damage can be found and dealt with while it is still small and easy to manage.

Protection and damage repair

The reason old paint chips, fades and peels is that a home exterior takes a terrible beating from the elements. The front line shield against those elements is a new coat of exterior paint. Sun, rain, and relentless debris and insects can damage a home’s exterior. But, once the surface is freshly painted, a homeowner can breathe a sigh of relief for a few years because he knows the house is protected.

Color update

Sometimes, a family will buy a home in a color they don’t enjoy. Painting solves that dilemma and offers the opportunity to choose the color they want their home to be. Even a slight change, for example, changing the color of the trim, can be a refreshing change and worth consideration for a family that is otherwise satisfied with their home’s color, or even one who is bound by the rules of an HOA.

Curb appeal and an increase in home value

Paint is one of the few upgrades that adds more than the cost of the job to the home’s value. While a kitchen remodel only offers 80% ROI, a paint job offers up to 140% ROI. There are virtually no other upgrades that can accomplish as much bang for the buck. It’s a stunning value, particularly for the homeowner who is considering a home sale. We often see neighbors jump on the painting bandwagon, as well, once they see how good a freshly painted home looks.
